Chris Didcote
Chris is another one of our Senior Minds, not in age but in experience. The kind of person you want with you at a quiz but not if you don't want to know the ending to the latest movies!
Which office do you work in?
Bristol
How long have you worked for CM?
10 years 8 months
How do you travel to the Office?
A very short 10 minute walk - I’m very lucky!
What is your favourite thing about working for CM?
It’s a really relaxed working environment working alongside a team that really knows their stuff so you’re always learning. We gel together really well and even when things get a bit more difficult there’s always someone on hand to help you work your way through any challenge. Drupal can have a steep learning curve but we like to dive straight in and tackle problems head on!
What is your favourite thing to eat when at work?
A difficult one, I guess the thing I eat most often are egg mayo sandwiches!
Tea or Coffee?
Coffee before lunch then usually chamomile/peppermint tea after.
Interesting fact about you
I tend to retain stupidly useless trivia and I bizarrely like hearing spoilers for films and TV...
What Drupal projects/modules are you involved in?
My most recent project has been working on the new ComputerMinds website, writing content and doing the odd bit of development work. This is my first Drupal 8 project so there has been a lot of learning as I go to get to grips with the Drupal 8 way of doing things. I was also one of the lead developers for the first iteration of Bluetree, the platform we created for the Conservative Party. This saw me visiting Westminster a lot to get to know the client and better learn their requirements as the project evolved. Westminster is a cool place to visit...I once had a meeting whilst sat on the sofa that Churchill used to sleep on during the war - you don’t get that everyday!
What’s your favourite kind of Drupal work?
I really enjoy getting to know our clients’ requirements and figuring out how we can best use Drupal to realise these. This has a good mix of actually writing code and direct interaction with the clients we’re working with. I also enjoy writing proposals in response to invitations to tender which often see tight deadlines to keep the pressure on!
